It also ends on a cliffhanger, it's not entirely satisfying)*Price($10 seems decent for a HOG, but that's a lot for a game this short - buy it on sale!)+ . + . + . + .I've enjoyed a lot of the games Artifex Mundi has developed and published, they offer up beautiful, lush backgrounds, relaxing gameplay coupled with music - and each game is a unique experience. This game lives up to the reputation, aesthetic-wise, but it was a bit disappointing towards the end.You play as a young woman, who was abandoned at an orphanage at a young age; 25 years later you receive a mysterious invitation to an underwater theater and enjoy all its wonders. Hoping to find answers about your parents, you board a small drop ship and sink to the ocean floor. And you soon find yourself trapped in this luxurious tourist attraction, with an unknown phantom lurking in the halls. As if that wasn't enough, you come across strange creatures, gadgets, and even a machine that can shape people's dreams! The premise is interesting enough, and the gameplay is enjoyable. If you're a fan of Artifex Mundi, you'll probably enjoy this title as well. The only complaint I have is that it is significantly shorter than most of their games and a $10 price seems like too much. It's a definite buy, however, you might want to wait for it to go on sale if you're tight on cash.. If you have ever played a hidden object game from Artifex Mundi, you already know what to expect in terms of gameplay. Point. Click. Hidden object game. Mini game. Point. Click. Cutscene. That is not to say that the game is repetitive or tedious. I enjoyed the story and am hoping that there will be a sequel. I really love puzzles and challenges and Artifex Mundi always finds a way to tempt me to use to hint or skip buttons. If you want a challenge, it is there and if you want something more casual and laid-back, that option is there for you too.I played through the game twice to unlock the achievements (once on expert mode and once on casual) and did not run into any snags, crashes etc. The graphics are crisp and the soundtrack is enjoyable. The sound effects are realistic enough to worry my cat and send him looking for kittens, (which is an added bonus as far as I'm concerned because I'm a terrible person,) and I can actually play with the music on instead of muting it and playing my own in the background.10/10 Would worry my cat again.. Due to the short length of this game (two hours on my first play through), I do recommend it, but only on sale. In my experience, HOPA games are usually 4-6 hours long. The Emerald Maiden has a unique and intriguing setting. The Emerald Maiden is a historical science fiction game with a fantasy tilt, involving exploration of dreams as a sort of game within a game, similar to the Time Mysteries series, which has the player visit different spacetimes in addition to exploring a space in a main timeline. However, I think The Emerald Maiden executes the idea more elegantly, and the storyline is stronger as a whole. It's a story about family, belonging, and origins, with many plot twists, and with gorgeous art. Please note this is a VERY short game. My first play through only took two hours. There are also no alternatives to the hidden object scenes (e.g. dominos). There is a single collectible, roses. There is a bonus adventure. If you're a fan of games with a Bioshock-type Art Deco aesthetic, and like the idea of exploring an underwater city to solve a mystery, this is definitely a good casual game to play on a rainy day.If you are looking for another Bioshock-type Art Deco underwater city type of HOPA, with a similar tone, but with a focus on dreams, check out Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden. That game has a domino mode available for people that want to skip the hidden object puzzles, but does not have collectibles. That game also has scarier bits that The Emerald Maiden, and features more adventuring than mystery solving. I would also say that The Emerald Maiden is definitely more historical in terms of tone. The heroine of The Emerald Maiden is exploring an area created contemporaneously with her exploration, whereas the heroine of Abyss is exploring a dilapidated underwater city.If you just want to check out more HOPAs with a nautical tilt, I absolutely recommend Artifex Mundi's classic Nightmares From The Deep series, which should be played in released order.. I just finished playing this game and i must say it is not what i expected. The storyline is not that intriguing, or rich, but it can draw some of your interest if you like hidden object games with a basic storyline as i do. The minigames, as well as the hidden objects' scenes were not that challenging, but what keeps you going is the finding of the little kittens, as a "side request". Overall, i would recommend to buy this game on sale or in a bundle, as it does not worth that much, and only if you want to play a light and easy game with a basic storyline.. A pretty solid and enjoyable HOG.. Actually pretty decent. Has sweet kittens in it that need rescuing, and the HOG scenes are good. The bonus adventure is fun too. Look, the bar is low for these things, so thumbs up from me.. Meh. Meh. Meh. Nah.Not godawful, but not good either. There are definitely better games in this category that make for better purchases than this. Story: You get an anonymous letter that tell you that you can find your parents if you let yourself get placed in a tiny submarine and lowered to the ocean floor, which doesnt sound scary at all. You then have to solve puzzles and find objects to find/save your parents. My feels: Negative: I feel like this game forgot a level of quality control. There are many typos in the game (minding my own 'buisness' with my 'revoler'), and the subtitles for the intro cutscene where out of sync for me. Also; can we please not have flat, modern keys go into oldfashioned keyholes? The soundtrack is decent enough, but I wish it lasted longer than a 20 second loop. Especially annoying if you're semistuck on a HO scene and it loops over and over again. Also a few plot holes and minor things that didn't make sense. As a final finisher of my experience with the game; I'm pretty sure the last 'boss battle' puzzle was made in MS Paint. Just many minor things that built up and ruined the overall experience with the game, and the puzzles were unoriginal and too easy to weigh up for all the bad stuff.Positive: KittensAchievements: There is only one missable achievement, and it's near the end, so be aware if you're a collector.Final: Not sure why this got 80% positive when I've enjoyed worse rated games much more than this :/ Buy some other HOG unless you're a achievement/game collector. There are many better HOGs out there.. really enjoying this game. finished in 4 hours. Like many other HOG games published by Artifex mundi this game is more of the same, polished and consistent visuals, simple story and puzzles, decent ho scenes and pretty enjoyable gameplay. Game have pretty obvious Bioshock inspiration but not taking it to far, just a inspiration here and there :) Save Persia from mysterious plague!: Ominous clouds are gathering over Persia. The making of stop-motion animation in Irony Curtain: Comrades! Today we’d like to introduce you to our process of making a stop-motion animation. In one of the previous updates, we’ve explained what stop-motion animation is and why are we using it in our game. This is how we prepare each asset: 1. The whole process starts with the Game Designer. They prepare a documentation with all animations needed for the specific part of the game. There are several types of animations for example: idle animation, talking, specific animation for beginning or end of the conversation and custom animation. 2. Then the animator prepares everything that was requested in the specification in an animation software (we use Toon Boom Harmony for that). First comes the rough sketch, then the more detailed lineart and some colors and shadows at the end. 3. When the animation is ready, the animator exports each frame as a separate file. Our animations have usually 80 frames on average, so it’s a lot of files to export! Those files are put into our inhouse tool that does all the magic – cropps them, sets the frame’s size and creates a file that manages animating all the cropped images. 4. Now it’s time for the Level Designer. They use the graph you see below (a kind of a state diagram) to control which animation should be used in which state (e.g., idle or end of the conversation) by referencing the files generated during step 3. And that's all! Don't forget to add Irony Curtain to wishlist to stay updated!https://store.steampowered.com/app/866190/Irony_Curtain_From_Matryoshka_with_Love/.
